Bloating really sucks. There’s nothing quite like a bad case of the bloats to leave you feeling sluggish, heavy, uncomfortable and just not functioning like the best version of yourself. But luckily there are some simple fixes that can help not only prevent bloating in the first place, but also de-bloat you fast when the inevitable happens.
So, in order to arm ourselves (and you) with some of these de-bloating solutions, we spoke to nutritionist, Lola Berry, to find out what she does to successfully beat the bloat.

Cut Refined Sugars and Processed Foods
Gut inflammation is the root cause of a lot of our health concerns, including bad digestion and bloating. First thing first, I find that the faster we cut inflammatory foods such as refined sugar and gluten, the quicker the gut feels better. In nutrition there’s a saying “leaky gut”, leaky mind”, which comes from the knowledge that 90 percent of serotonin receptors are in the tummy. When the gut is not happy, neither is the mind. So, heal the tummy and the rest will follow.
Harness the Anti-Inflammatory Power of Turmeric
One top tip for improved digestion and bloating is to include Turmeric in the diet, which is a great anti-inflammatory herb. Sip on turmeric tea or add it freshly grated to meals to help with the gut healing process. My favourite turmeric blended tea is Pukka’s Golden Turmeric which uses organic, medicinal grade herbs, so they’re genuinely better for you and you can reap the benefits.
Reap the Benefits of Nettle Leaf
When it comes to unpleasant bloating and fluid retention, nettle leaf is a herb that has been traditionally used to support this. Cleansing teas that feature nettle lead are therefore a great way to benefit from this herb! I recommend the Pukka Cleanse Tea which I often pack on flights to help prevent bloating. As females, we can hold up to 4 kilograms of extra fluid.
Up the Greens!
Green juice made of veggies is another great tool to help counter the effects of bloating. Blend celery, cucumber, ginger, spinach, zucchini, broccoli and lemon for a refreshing start to the day. The trick with juices is to make sure you don’t add too much fruit because the excess consumed quickly converts to sugar. Stick to the greens and add lemon and ginger to make it tastier.
Twist Out Those Toxins
There are some amazing twisting yoga postures to help with detoxification and the elimination of toxins in the muscles. Try a seated twist or trikonasana (triangle pose). Even just lying flat on your bag and hugging one keen at a time into your chest (whilst the other is lying out flat) will do the job. Anytime you’re in a twisting posture, make sure you activate your core to help protect your spine!
